Drama

The following from the great mind of Joy Tiz.   Her report from CPAC would lead one to believe there is a fundamental change in tactics coming from the right.  Many conservatives feel it’s about time.

CPAC Now to Be Known as TPAC

What’s expanding faster than the federal government?  CPAC!  Last year the diminutive crowd of a mere 8500 overwhelmed  the traditional venue, the Omni Shoreham in Washington.  This year, the conference was held across the street at the ginormous Marriot, which also became overwhelmed when the crowd swelled to over 10,000.

About 5000 attendees were college students, which accounts for the freakish straw poll victory by Ron Paul Perot.

Growing even faster than the federal deficit or CPAC, is the Tea Party Movement whose presence was felt throughout the convention. Conservative ideals have always been appealing to most Americans.  The problem has been too few Republicans have been able to articulate conservative principles and even fewer who practice them.  Respect for the sanctity of life, smaller government, strong national defense, lower taxes and greater personal liberty-normal people love this stuff.  What we have trouble with is finding candidates who cannot only express those goals; but, also have a track record of standing up for them.

We’ve allowed the mainstream media to define conservatism up till now.  The Tea Partiers, people finally pushed into action by the Left’s hideous policies, have turned to the Constitution.   This altogether spontaneous and authentic citizen’s revolt has accomplished more than any politician in decades.  They have introduced the true conservative agenda to the public.

Thus, CPAC didn’t become a brawl between the RINOS and the Tea Partiers.  The CPAC speakers have figured out that aligning themselves with the Tea Party agenda, which, coincidentally, is the U.S. Constitution, is imperative if they have any hopes of creating or saving any of their own jobs in the Capitol.

We old timers (this was my second CPAC) did a lot of crowing about how we were conservatives long before it became all the rage.

If this year’s CPAC had a theme, it was:  what a difference a year makes.  This year’s crowd was a smiling and optimistic assemblage.  And far more diverse than MSNBC’s prime time lineup.

Glenn Beck was this year’s keynote speaker, delivering what was essentially an episode of the Glenn Beck show complete with chalkboard.  His passion came through and was a spectacular way to end the convention.

The apogee for me personally came from New Media Man, Andrew Breitbart.  We conservatives have done ourselves no favor by maintaining our mien as the adults in the room; never to utter an insolent word while the left carries on like a bunch of vulgarians.   John McCain did the nation a grievous disservice by abandoning the inquiry he knew the media would never do.  The McCain camp had a moral obligation to uncover the gaping holes in Obama’s history and his disturbing associations.

Breitbart, who was introduced by Giles, said the conservative movement should stop always playing defense. The success of [James] O’Keefe and  [Hannah] Giles, he said, represents a better tactic. ‘We went on offense.’”

If there was one thing I needed to hear this year, that was it.  Liberals can never get elected on their policies; the entire liberal agenda depends on subterfuge.  They have to lie about who they are and what they want.  Republicans keep letting them get away with it.  Breitbart and the new media just changed the world:  the good guys are going on offense.

Too many republicans seem driven to enable the left to control our narrative.   When you find yourself aligned with some bovine school alum at MSNBC, perhaps it’s time to rethink your positions.

The politician’s speeches were good and mostly uplifting.  The panels were informative, and the expose on the Global Warming hoax was just plain fun.  But in the grander scheme of things, the Breitbart speech may be the most consequential.

Our Founding Fathers envisioned a Congress of citizen legislators; not a bunch of thoroughly corrupt career politicians.  Breitbart and the conservative blogosphere are genuine citizen journalists.  The Tea Party is entirely a citizen’s movement.  It drives the left mad because they can’t find a “leader” to abuse.  Our Founders would understand why there is no leader of the Tea Party; the entire movement is about personal liberty and responsibility; concepts which are anathema to the left.
