Take THAT, GOP

The leadership in the GOP cannot be happy with Scott Brown. Here is a Republican elected to the Senate seat vacated by Ted Kennedy from one of the most liberal states in the union. The GOP looks at Scott Brown as the leverage vote they need to deter the far leftist agenda of the Obama Administration and the Democratic Senatorial Leadership. In one of his first opportunities to show his alliances with the Republican Party, Brown instead showed the same independent renegade spirit that got him elected in the first place and bucked his party by voting in favor of a predominantly Democratic “jobs” bill.
Senator Brown was not alone in lending a non-Democrat vote to the package. Four other Republicans and two Independents support the measure. Outside observers might say the Republicans are crying over spilled milk as they had initial input into the bill before Harry Reid switched a number of provisions prior to the procedural vote. Still, as legislation from this Democrat led Senate goes, the “jobs” bill isn’t a socialist leaning leviathan of governmental expansion. If anything, the GOP could look like stooges for devious business execs by voting against a bill that cracks down on offshore tax shelters. Brown does not want to take the risk of being lumped in with the Republicans currently facing scrutiny by conservatives in America, and so his vote is one of self-preservation as much as a statement of individuality.
