Protesting To Protest

A few weeks ago, I wrote an article about the Seven Deadly Tea Party Sins. This article was passed along the TEA Party network from Nashville to Sacramento. It caused a bit of a stir, but much of the points made were acknowledged as legitimate threats to the party. Chip Hanlon has expounded upon some of those theories in his Red County posting Tea Partiers: Beware Perpetual Jihad.
There is ample criticism for the habitual protesters in Lawrence. They make their signs for whatever may be the cause de jour. Protests range from saving the T to ending the war; stopping development to maintaining the legality of K2. With each one sided political protest, the influence and credibility of those assemblies is weakened. Habitual protesters only support the cause of bringing attention upon themselves. TEA Party protesters must be cautious not to fall into this trap. The progress of the last year will be quickly negated by appearing as the right wing version of eternal whiners.
Hanlon also points to the fragmentation of the TEA Party. This is yet another of the Seven Deadly Sins. While some factions may be satisfied by getting I-caucus vetted and endorsed candidates elected, others will see the need to sabotage their own in an attempt to justify the existence of the movement.
Here is the boldest prediction regarding the future of the TEA Party yet; this wonderful leaderless organization will cease to exist in the next year. After the 2010 elections, the TEA Party will burn out and the only remnants will be a few trying to hold onto what was the great summer of 2009. MSNBC and the leftist will take credit for her demise, but the truth will be that the TEA Party failure is a result of negligent suicide.
