In January, the Voice of Merrill reported on a lawyer in Florida who took the steps to register the “TEA Party” as an official third political party. The vast majority of the members of the TEA Party are adamantly opposed to forming a third political party as they view the action as dangerous to the cause and advantageous to the opposition. Now, another group in Connecticut is using the name “CT TEA Party” to form an alternative campaign. Their intention, as in Florida, is to put up a viable candidate which breaks from the restraints of the Democrat and Republican brands. The National TEA Party Coalition and regional TEA Party groups are concerned at the formation of these different parties and are set to take legal action. However, their biggest concern does not come from like minded individuals with different tactics, rather from liberal groups.
The TEA Party has come under attack more consistently as of late. The reason lies in the real threat they pose to liberal progressives in America. The left recognizes the threat and are set to attack the TEA Party at every turn. Should a group of progressives register the TEA Party as a third party in the remaining 48 states, they would surely succeed in splitting the conservative votes. This tactic would all but assure the Democrats victory in races from the local level to the Congress. The best move for the TEA Party right now would be to take legal action blocking such registrations in the remaining 48 states before they are forced to sue to get their own name back.
