Yes, it seems the bloom is off the rose... And it is revealed to be ugly and putrid. That's the smell of bigotry.
There is no legal obstacle to building the cultural center and mosque at the proposed site. Personal offense and distaste at the "inconsiderate attitude" is, in the words of someone, a matter of perspective. Too many people are myopic or suffering from hysterical blindness.
The families of those who died at the World Trade Center would be those whose perspective should most be taken into consideration. However, since some of the victims that died that day were themselves Muslims, not all perspectives should be treated equally...
It seems that many of the people who are the most upset about this topic, have the least stake in the game. Some people need to take a deep breath... and try not to wretch from the stench...

Oh, the Outrage! Oh, the Hysteria! A mosque 2 blocks from ground zero... 2 Manhattan blocks= 6 city blocks. There is currently a mosque 5 blocks from ground zero. Muslims pray every day in the Pentagon 75 feet from the area destroyed on 9/11. But ignore those facts...
Let's build no more Catholic cathedrals because a few priests within the church have molested children. And certainly no more Catholic schools. We must be consistent in out condemnation of 'the whole' because of the transgressions of 'a few within the whole.'

Comment on TEA Party Caucus by Michael

Ms. Bachman is priceless... Using tax payer dollars to form a new caucus-thereby expanding government--in the name of a movement dedicated to reigning in the size of government and promoting fiscal responsibility... Perfect!
November may well bring a revolution within the Republican Party and the Tea Party movement. If Tea Party candidates perform well in the midterm elections, the Republican Party will be forced to embrace the Tea Party movement and co-opt many of it's ideals, or lose support of the movement. That will result, however, in the more moderate Republicans distancing themselves from the party.
If Tea Party candidates perform poorly in November, the Republicans will find it necessary to distance themselves from the Tea Party, in order to regain the support of moderate members.
For Republicans, the outcome of November may well be "merge or purge."

It should be noted that Ms. Sherrod not only shared with her audience her initial encounter with the farmer and her feelings and actions during that encounter, but went on to relate to the audience her realization that her actions were wrong. That she then proceeded to assist the farmer to save his farm and that Ms. Sherrod, the farmer and his wife are all now friends. So much so, in fact, that Mrs. Spooner-the farmer's wife- went on CNN in her defense.
Noting this information is in no way a defense or rationalization of her initial actions, but helps provide the context of that speech--or as Paul Harvey used to say...the rest of the story.

The United States of America, Plaintiff,
v.
The State of Arizona; and Janice K. Brewer, Governor of the State of Arizona

COMPLAINT
In this action, the United States seeks to declare invalid and preliminarily and permanently enjoin the enforcement of S.B. 1070, as amended and enacted by the State of Arizona, because S.B. 1070 is preempted by federal law and therefore violates the Supremacy Clause of the United States Constitution.

I've never seen more racially divisive words before in my entire life!

Comment on Malkin on America’s Most Racist President by Michael

It would appear that Ms. Malkin owes her readers a retraction. MediaMatters has exposed the facts regarding the Dept. of Justice decisions on this case.

The George Bush DOJ, not Obama's, made the decision not to pursue criminal charges. Before President Bush left office, the Department of Justice filed a civil complaint asking for an injunction against the New Black Panther Party and some of its members. In his May 14 testimony before the Commission on Civil Rights, Assistant Attorney General Thomas Perez explained that the Bush administration's Justice Department "determined that the facts did not constitute a prosecutable violation of the criminal statutes" but did "file a civil action on January 7th, 2009."

That would have been before the Evil One and his Minions of inJustice took office.

On May 18, 2009, the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania entered default judgment against Samir Shabazz. In his May 14 testimony before the Commission on Civil Rights, Perez stated that the Justice Department had obtained "sufficient evidence to sustain the charge" of voter intimidation against Shabazz, identified by Perez as "the defendant who had the nightstick," and that "the default judgment was sought and obtained as it related to him."
